Directors: Alejandro Brugués, Joe Dante, Mick Garris, Ryûhei Kitamura, David Slade
Cast: Mickey Rourke, Elizabeth Reaser, Richard Chamberlain, Annabeth Gish
Synopsis: In this twisted horror anthology, five strangers are drawn to an abandoned theatre and forced to watch their deepest and darkest fears play out before them.
Grimmfest say: A classic old-school compendium of creepy tales, with an all-star line-up of directors. Assembled by Mick Garris as a kind of feature film companion to his classic "Masters of Horror" series, this is a weird, wonderful and most welcome throwback to the classic EC-comics-inspired Amicus anthologies of the 1970s, or indeed to George Romero and Stephen King's 80s EC homage, Creepshow. A series of grim moral tales introduced by a strange host with a sinister agenda. Joe Dante evokes the spirit of Rod Sterling and the spectre of Dr Kildare in a tale of plastic surgery gone sideways. Juan of the Dead director Alejandro Brugués deconstructs and demolishes that Cabin in The Woods set-up once and for all. Japanese maestro of mayhem Ryûhei Kitamura contributes a characteristically gory and confrontational tale of possession in a Catholic School. 100 Days of Night's David Slade unleashes a nightmare in black and white, while Garris himself offers a chilling meditation on maternal love. Something for everyone, in other words... Whether they like it or not.
What I'm Expecting: Nightmare Cinema speaks for itself: a 'twisted horror anthology' in the same vein as Creepshow; what more could you want?
And with it being so long since we've had anything like this on the big screen it will be a most welcome return indeed.
